Redevelopment
Horning Sailing Club is situated in an idyllic location on the northern bank of the River Bure in the charming and picturesque waterside village of Horning on the Norfolk Broads. The Clubhouse is one the best places in Horning from which to watch the racing or just sit and watch river life.
The present facilities were constructed in the 1960s and although they have been maintained, extended and updated at various times since then and have served us very well, they are now in need of some longer term attention, investment and improvement.
Various discussions have taken place over the last few years about the best course of action and at the 2018 AGM it was agreed that a Clubhouse Development Sub-Committee should be established to look at options for repairing the existing structure and also for more ambitious plans to remove the existing facilities and build a new Clubhouse.
The Clubhouse Development Sub-Committee have looked at various proposals and also at the necessary groundworks and piling that will be necessary whether we repair or replace, and are now in the process of formulating plans, drawings, design costings and timescale for the proposed new Clubhouse.
Phase one will look to replace the existing bridge onto the island. We need to improve accessibility for members but also need a good route on to the island for phase two which is the clubhouse replacement. Both phases are in progress but at different stages. There is more detail on the relevant pages.
