Horning Sailing Clubs racing on Sunday saw lively conditions on the river, with a good breeze providing for an exciting day of racing. There was a great turnout of sailors making the most of the favourable weatherespecially the dinghies, which thrived in the breeze. It was also great to see three Reedlings out on the water, an established Broads class based in Horning, with only eleven boats in existence.

In the morning Reedling races, Ezra and Stuart Bailey in Jaws won the first two races, while both Chris Mayo and Steve Longhurst (Bulrush) and Kevin Saunders with Shirley Needham (Cockatrice) took a second place each. The six-strong Yeoman fleet saw Geoff Stubbs and Richard Wagstaff (Tara) break away from the fleet for a win, followed by Paul Clarke and Andy Tabiner (Two C Sons) in second, and Steve Middleditch with Maria Spreadbury (Scorpio) in third. The second race was extremely close, with Two C Sons just finishing ahead of Scorpio, and Tara finishing in third.

In the Yare & Bure class, Kim West (Nevada Blue) took two wins, ahead of Alastair Fields (Rosy Wave). In the dinghies – Lasers, Toppers, and Optimists all raced. Chevy Bulldeath took both morning wins in the Toppers, while Harrison Ryder and Oliver Besant each claimed a Laser first placeboth sailing with radial rigs. In the Optimists, Indie Bulldeath also achieved two wins.

The afternoon series featured a mixed fleet of Yeomans, Reedlings, Yare & Bures, and Rebels. Paul and Sarah Clarke (Two C Sons) dominated the race, winning both on the water and on handicap by a clear margin. Tara secured second place, with Nevada Blue taking third. Two C Sons then rounded off a great day on the water with a third win in the final allcomers race, followed by Bulrush in second and Blue Moon (Q Stewart) in third.

In the dinghies, Karlina Bulldeath took a win in the Toppers, before Chevy returned to claim the final race. The Laser fleet saw a dramatic finish between George Davies and Jasmine HerringGeorge just pipping Jasmine by two seconds, though she came back to win the final race. In the Optimists, Indie Bulldeath and Rose Herring each took home a win.

Despite looming rainclouds, thankfully everyone managed to pack away just in time before the showers arrived. Looking ahead, racing returns to Hoveton Little Broad next weekend for the first time this year. Then, on Easter Monday, there is an Open Downriver Race to Thurnewhich is always a popular event and open to all. To enter, please email racing@horning-sailing.club.
