Hi everyone,

It’s been another busy week in the warm weather, with various activities taking place including our Sundown Series on Saturday (ably run by Edward and Xanthe!), racing on the river Sunday (you can read the report here), a beautiful evening paddleboarding on Monday, training on Thursday, and during this week some of our members have been taking part in a Dinghy Instructor course.

Looking ahead to this week, we have our Sundown Series continuing on Saturday at 4pm; Club racing on Sunday is a downriver race to Thurne (if you are intending to take part, we would be grateful if you could please email racing@horning-sailing.club); on Monday we will be paddleboarding at 6pm - as the evenings are drawing in, the last session is planned for Monday September 4th. Training also draws to a close this week, with next Thursday (31st August) being the last session.

Congratulations to all our younger members receiving their A Level and GCSE results last week and this week, it’s not been an easy ride, but well done on getting through it.

We hope to see you soon!

Commodore’s Update

Last weekend saw a small number of members taking advantage of a lovely Saturday evening sailing in our Sundown Series, with our juniors again helping to run the line. Come down and join in, starts at 1600 until 18:00.

A lovely Sunday for sailing or spectating, it also saw an increase in hire and private boats on the water, with some unruly behaviour causing a few issues with our racing, please remember to be polite even when they are rude.

It’s been a very good week with several hours of sunshine and very warm - don’t forget the suncream, hats and keep hydrated.

Members would have seen that the rear of the island key heading and decking is now complete and looks very nice.

Can the owner of the broken trailer dumped at the rear of the car park please remove it immediately.

I hope you all have a great weekend and will keep our fingers crossed with the weather.

Don’t forget to get your trophies engraved ready to return, also please bring them back polished.

Will – Commodore HSC

Vice-Commodore’s Clew

It was fairly quiet at the Club last Sunday. Maybe it was the alternative attraction of the football World Cup, but it made me uncomfortably aware that we will soon be into autumn and time to prepare for laying up again. In fact I received my laying up application form just this week. So we need to make the most of the season left, and as we can extend our season this year we are expecting to have some additional activities planned very soon. For me it will be a brief sortie out to sea this weekend in response to a family request for some salty sailing, but back the following week for what will be a busy weekend at the Club.

Rear Commodore’s Update

This week we have kicked off our plans to progress the club’s development plan, with lots to think about and opportunities to explore. We look forward to keeping you all updated and helping to progress the club.

Galley News

This season seems to be going by very quickly! Thanks again to all the volunteers over Horning week and the week after who kept the galley going. Also thank you to everyone who has been understanding about our internet issues regarding card payments. This is in hand and hopefully will be resolved soon.

Thursday

As it will be the last Thursday training night next week, we have had a request for a chicken curry to mark the occasion, so there will be chicken curry with rice and toasties available.

Sunday

We have been stamping the loyalty cards each time a lunch is ordered by you and some of you have had the benefit of a free lunch already, with some very close! All completed cards are ready to be drawn for the end of season regatta, where we will be serving a roast dinner and desert on the Sunday. We will conduct the draw in a couple of weeks and three lucky people will receive their lunch for free!

Last Sunday we had some bacon baguettes for sale at breakfast and they were a hit, so we will be selling them again this Sunday. We will also now be making a selection of sandwiches and baguettes for people to choose from, from the fridge for lunch rather than order in advance.

But remember if there isn’t anything there you prefer then no worries, if we’ve got it, we’ll make it!

See you Sunday and Thursday!
