Horning Sailing Club is blessed with a fantastic location in a charming village and on the River Bure. The Clubhouse is arguably one of the best places in Horning to sit and watch river life, whether that be to watch the racing. It is the perfect site for a clubhouse, but our present facilities were constructed in the 1960s, and though they have been, maintained, extended and updated at various times since, and have served us very well, they are now in need of some longer term attention, investment and improvement.
Various discussions have been taking place over the last few years about what is the best course of action and as yet there are no clear plans. And sadly the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed progress on some of the discussion of these sorts of issues. However at the 2018 AGM it was agreed a Club Redevelopment Sub Committee should be established to look at both options for redeveloping and repairing the existing structure and also for more ambitious plans to remove the existing facilities and build a new clubhouse.
The Committee have spent the last year looking at various proposals, and also at the necessary groundworks and piling that will be needed whatever we decide to do. They are now in the process of formulating clearer plans and drawing to give members more information about the options and looking at costs. Flowing from this work is also the need to look at fundraising for any major works we carry out, so there is also now a sub-committee to consider the funding options. The intention is to update members at an EGM but given the lockdown restrictions it is not yet clear when this will be able to happen.
