It was an eventful start to Horning Sailing Club’s full 2024 season, after a couple of weeks’ informal racing leading up to it. With a very breezy day, the first rescue took place before racing even started – with a keen Yeoman taking to the water without a crew and making it to the start line!

In the blustery conditions, Yeomans and Yare & Bures revelled in the early season sunshine, making the most of a quiet river. Although bitterly cold, the day was enjoyed – and even saw some intrepid paddleboarders take to (and in!) the water. The first Yeoman race was won by Toby Fields and Daniel Blackwell in Tanskey, just a matter of seconds ahead of Steve Middleditch and Maria Spreadbury in Scorpio who had caught up well during the second lap. Third were Adrian Tooke and Clive Parkerson in Damselfly. The second race saw Scorpio lead for the first lap, before Tanskey overtook on the final stretch. Amongst the Yare & Bures, Kim West and Peter Coles won both races in Nevada Blue, ahead of Alastair Fields and Kevin Blackwell, who had opted to reef. The final race of the day saw a mixed fleet, with Nevada Blue winning on handicap ahead of Scorpio, with Damselfly third.
