Hi everyone,

Our main news from the last week is the 62nd Three Rivers Race, and what a weekend it was!

A massive thank you to our Three Rivers Race Committee, and so many amazing volunteers, from the Galley to Guardships and so many more.  It truly was a memorable weekend, with congratulations going to both the trophy winners and those who completed the race. The full race report is available on Yachts & Yachting here.

There’s also a range of fantastic photographs of the Race on the Three Rivers Race Facebook group. Don’t forget, you can share your videos of the race here or by emailing buryvideotransfers@gmail.com

As a competitor, I can say that I *think* I enjoyed it (once I regained the ability to walk!) – but it absolutely is a unique event, and one that we should be very proud of.

Commodore’s Update

Another week has flown by, with last Friday at the Club getting the car park cut and tidied, also getting the rescue boats ready for the Three Rivers Race along with many other tasks.

A massive thank you to the Three Rivers Race team for yet another well executed 62nd Race, the months of work put in to have everything right for the day, well done. With good wind for most of the Race and the sun out as well made a very pleasant start to the Race, with many early finishers. Our thanks to our sponsors Yachtmasters & Panks Pumps. A big thank you also to all our volunteers who helped throughout the weekend, without you the Race could not go ahead.

After watching the starts, Peter & myself made our way round to see as many of our Guardships as possible and to watch the race also at these locations. After this it was off to Martham to continue with Guardship duties, we had great fun and laughter over the many hours, my thanks to my team, Julie Hunter, David Gibbs & Brian Levy.

This weekend I will be away at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club, where Abbey & Anya will be representing HSC in the ITCA Coastal Championships; I will be on safety boat duty. Good luck to them both.

The weekend weather is looking good, so whether you are sailing, spectating or out with the family, I hope you have a great weekend.

On a sad note, our thoughts are with the Families of Hugh Tusting, Granville Bunn & Elizabeth Bryan who all being long standing members of HSC have sadly passed away.

Take Care

Vice Commodore’s Clew

I think we can all agree that last weekend’s Three Rivers Race lived up to expectations, with near perfect weather conditions and plenty of finishers, even if the last one missed the time limit by an agonising 90 seconds, after 24 hours of sailing. At least the breakfast was presumably some consolation. Well done to all prize winners; see you at prize giving dinner in October.

No doubt full details will be in this Jibsheet, but I must add my thanks to the 3RR team who ran the race in the usual exemplary manner, and to all our great volunteers in the galley and on the guard ships.

It is back to normal this weekend although some of us, well me at least, have a long trip down river to take a competing dinghy back to its berth. Then there is another visit to the Broad on Sunday when we will see if the weed has grown any more.

Rear Commodore’s Update

It was a very busy weekend for the Club as we hosted the 62nd Yachtmaster Insurance Three Rivers Race.

A very big congratulations to all competitors who took part and an even bigger thank you to everyone who did their bit to help ensure the event ran smoothly. Although I’ve never experienced the adrenaline rush of taking part in the Race, I was lucky enough to experience it second hand at 1am serving up cooked breakfasts to the returned sailors and Lorraine was out on the water as a guard ship taking in all the action as it happened.

I definitely think it was a great weekend to show off our wonderful club and all the friendly faces of our brilliant volunteers!

This weekend’s racing

Looking ahead to this weekend, Sunday 11th June, which sees racing on the Broad, following Programme C.

We will be continuing to follow the 6/3 start sequence (instead of 10/5 minutes). The aim of this is to reduce time waiting on the Broad – but it will mean that some starts will be a little earlier, so please arrive in plenty of time for the tow to the Broad.

The start sequence is as follows:

Series 1:

10.30am       Reedlings

10.33am       Yeomans

10.36am       Rebels

10.39am       Yares & Bures

10.42am       Juniors & Allcomers “B” & “C”

10.51am       Cruisers (continue into series 2)

Series 2: Start 11.15am earliest

Series 3: Start 12.00pm earliest

The later series will start at a time determined by the OOD. Starts will be separated by a 3 minute interval, except Cruisers with a 9 minute interval.

After racing on Sunday, we have one of our ‘Social Sundays’ and it would be great to see members continuing to enjoy the Club into the afternoon. So why not come down, enjoy yourself, have a social sail/paddleboard if you wish – and just enjoy spending time with friends – especially as the forecast looks so promising!

By way of reminder, you can download the full racing programme from the HSC website here.

British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships

One for our younger sailors – the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships are taking place over the weekend 17/18th June. This is a great introductory event for young sailors looking to take part in their first event outside the club. There are three fleets, including:

·       The Championship fleet (with racing including Toppers, Teras, Optimists, ILCA 4s and Fevas) – the most competitive fleet

·       The Regatta fleet (with racing including Toppers, Teras, Optimists) – this is a coached fleet to introduce the basics of racing

·       The Rookie Fleet – for this one you only need to be able to sail round a triangular course (equivalent of RYA Stage 2) and you don’t even need to take your own boat as you can borrow one. The emphasis will be on games with aims rather than racing, aiming to build confidence on the water.

·       Camping is also available at Grafham Water.

Please see here for more information, or please talk to Holly.

Dates for the diary

·       Start of Sundown Series – Saturday 17th June (4pm onwards)

·       Spring Regatta Pursuit Race – Saturday 24th June

Helm & Crew Opportunities

Don’t forget that I am co-ordinating helms & crews who wish to get on the water... so, if you are a helm looking for a crew, or a crew looking to get on the water now, please contact me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com with your requirements and contact details, I will do my best to coordinate these requests. At the moment we have more helms looking for crews, than crews looking for opportunities – so if you are keen to get on the water, it’s a great time to do so!

Could you contribute to Jibsheet?

We are looking for members both young and old to make occasional or regular contributions to Jibsheet – whether it be your sailing journey so far, achievements or experiences, thoughts on your sailing activities, suggestions for what you’d like to see – or simply information you’d like to share with others – please contact Holly if you would like to know more - news@horning-sailing.club

Easy Fundraising

If you haven’t signed up yet to support the Club through online shopping, you can do so here at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/horningsc/ - a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us in this way!
