Hi everyone,

Already October and although the evenings are drawing in, the warm weather is making it feel far from this time of year! Don’t forget that we have a number of activities still to look forward to, including our Oktoberfest and Regatta next weekend, as well as our Autumn Regatta tomorrow and our new Autumn Passage Race on 21st October – you can find out more about this below, and we would love to see a great turnout for this (basically, it’s a non-stop downriver!)

Don’t forget that we are intending for our racing season to continue into mid-November – more information will follow about this soon.

Last weekend saw two events take place at Horning – the Yeoman & Kinsman Broadland Championships on Hoveton Little Broad, won by Roger Hannant (congrats Roger!) and Club racing on the river – you can read the report here.

Commodore’s Update

Last weekend Abbey & myself were at Draycote Water SC, where Abbey represented HSC in the ITCA-GBR Topper National Series 1 (NS1), with 85 5.3 Toppers taking part in the event, Abbey came overall 35th, with a 12th place in one of the races. I was on duty as ITCA-GBR’s CSL (Course Safety Lead), well done to Abbey.

If anyone is interested in the ITCA-GBR Topper Travellers or National Series events please talk to Abbey & Anya or myself, it’s a great way to progress your sailing, also to experience sailing on reservoirs, estuaries or the sea.

Don’t forget to get your entry in for our Autumn Passage Race on Saturday 21st October - if you are not racing, come down & join in, why not book a roast dinner that will be available following the race, we will also need volunteers for galley & safety boats so please come forward, you will also get a roast dinner.

A reminder to members that our season continues to mid-November now.

If you are considering selling your boat, you can contact Jibsheet so it can be advertised to our members who may well be looking for your boat, it also keeps the boats in the Club.

Don’t forget our up & coming AGM on Friday 13th October at 8pm in the Clubhouse, please attend if you can as it will include details & voting for the Club to become a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation), your vote & attendance is important.

Have a great weekend.

Vice Commodore’s Clew

Thank you to all those who have now booked for the End of Season Oktoberfest on 14 Oct. I will be ordering food and drink this week, but I will allow a small reserve for a limited number of extras if you have forgotten. Let me know soonest if you can - see details in this edition of Jibsheet.

The main event comes later, with our Prizegiving Dinner at The Old Rectory, Crostwick on 28 Oct, and the booking form for this is also in Jibsheet. This should be a glittering (literally) affair with all the trophies on display prior to the presentations, and a cracking menu as befitting the occasion (see poster for details).

We still have 3 big sailing events this month, and please make sure you attend the all important AGM at the Club on 13 Oct as we have some major long term decisions to make which will affect the future of the Club. We all need to be involved in this.

Peter

We will be holding another work party on the morning of 28th October – please watch out for an email with further details about this. It was also great to see how well the Yeoman and Kinsman Nationals went, and congratulations to all the winners. We would like to make a special mention to all the juniors who took part in the event – Anya Gittins, Hamish Harmer, Jasmine Herring, William Woolston, Harrison Ryder and James Street. We are so proud of our juniors.
