Hi everyone,

Can you believe it? This weekend is the last of our 2022 season! The AGM is this evening (8pm – Horning Village Hall – NR12 8LH). As Anne, our Secretary, said earlier in the week, if you would like to find out a bit more about how your Club is run, or would like to have your say on the subject, then this is your chance!  The Management Committee is keen that as many members as possible get involved. The Minutes of last year’s meeting, Agenda and Accounts can be found here.

Our End of Season Regatta takes place on the Broad tomorrow afternoon, with an earlier start of 1.30pm. We will be following the 3-minute start sequence.  If you are intending to race, please ensure that you are down in good time for the tow, which will leave around 1pm. After two races tomorrow, racing will return to the River on Sunday. If you are hoping to race for a fleet trophy, you also need to sail at least one race on Saturday. Tomorrow evening sees the End of Season Supper take place at The Wroxham – and on Sunday HSC’s Galley team are doing roast dinners (pre-booking is required - please see Anne’s email sent out yesterday for more information).

Last weekend saw both Commodore’s Day (see Will’s report below) and the Autumn Regatta – both of which made the most of the Autumn sunshine and good breeze, which were thoroughly enjoyed. You can read the full race report here.

Commodore’s Update

Last Saturday saw a belated Commodore's Day, with a watchful eye on the forecast which was not good at the start of the week; however, the day was blessed with warm sunshine and a nice wind. Thanks to all who attended & helped. It was a lovely day, BBQ at lunchtime, with plenty of sailing & fun races during the day, well done to our juniors.

Our season draws to a close this weekend with our End of Season Regatta, with racing on the Broad Saturday afternoon & on the river Sunday all day. It will be great to see a good turnout to see our season out, whether sailing or just watching with friends & family.

Don’t forget our AGM Friday 07th 20:00 @Horning Village Hall - come & join in, it’s your chance to put your views forward.

Saturday will see the End of Season supper @ The Wroxham Hotel. It will be good to see everyone who has booked their place. Please bring a raffle prize along, I omitted to put this on the details.

A polite reminder to the members who do not return the tenders to the Club after going over to collect their boat - tenders must be returned so they are available for other members to use, normally within 20 minutes. Also, can rubbish please be put in the bins & not left around the Island.

Trophies also need to be returned to the Club please. Could you please ensure they have been cleaned & polished, as some have been returned in a poor state, so that Adrian Tooke can get these all accounted for ready for our Prizegiving.

Boats will be required to be removed from the Club after the EOS weekend ready for Snowflakes, any problems please contact me direct.

I hope you have had an enjoyable season - after the many restrictions we have had to endure following the outbreak of Covid 19, this season saw things return to as normal as it can be these days.

Please see attached flyer / booking form for the Prizegiving & Officers’ Hand Over on Saturday 29th October at The Boathouse, Ormesby Broad 19:00 for 19:30. Please book early as the restaurant needs to know our requirements, you can also attend the Prizegiving whether eating or not, it would be great to see you.

I look forward to seeing you at the weekend.

Take care

Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot

Almost forgot my piece this week as I have been a bit more involved with my day job this week, but a timely reminder from Holly has brought me back to Club matters, and what a Club weekend we have before us.

I hope to see many of you at the AGM tonight, and then we have the End of Season event tomorrow night, although I think you will have had to have booked by now if you are coming. On the water Will and I will be officiating all the racing for the End of Season Regatta, on the broad and river over Saturday and Sunday.

What comes next? The following weekend is when we prepare the Club for handover to Snowflakes Sailing Club and for this we need a big turnout for the working party as there is usually much to do. So please put 15 October in your diary now and we will aim to put in a full shift from 1000 to 1300, or possibly beyond if necessary. I need to have everything done before 16 October when I will be sailing my boat off to its winter quarters.

HSC 200 Club

Sadly I am not able to come along in person but Jack will be coming along to run the 200 Club draw on Sunday 9th October around mid-morning in the Clubhouse and will be looking for volunteers to assist.

For anyone who would like to join the 200 Club our subs are £26.00 per annum or £6.50 per quarter, payable by standing order or direct credit/BAC.  We hold 4 draws a year with prize money totalling £320 per draw. If you are interested in joining us there are forms on the notice board on the back wall in the Clubhouse. Alternatively you can speak to Will.

Should you wish to contact us we can be reached by email on joan324butcher@btinternet.com  or you can reach us on 01603 466535.  The phone will go to answer phone if we don’t reach it in time and we will contact you later.
