Hi everyone,

It's really beginning to feel more like Autumn out there in the evenings and, as the nights become darker earlier, many of our evening activities are drawing to a close. Training finished tonight (Thursday) and we have our last paddleboarding session this Monday evening (4th September - 6pm).

The past week has continued to be busy, with the Sundown Series taking place in a torrential downpour on Saturday afternoon (despite this, we were assured it was still good fun!) and a Downriver Race on Sunday to Thurne, which was rather eventful – after a very speedy sail to Thurne, it was an extremely slow return leg – you can read the report here. We also had several members sailing in Barton Regatta. Monday’s Paddleboarding saw a small group enjoy a very peaceful sunset paddle on Hoveton Little Broad.

Looking ahead to this week, we have a Yare & Bure Open taking place on Saturday afternoon and Sunday, with racing on Hoveton Little Broad – and, due to this, there will be no Sundown Series this week. Club racing on Sunday is on the river (full programme below) and on Monday we will be Paddleboarding at 6pm.

Congratulations to all our new Dinghy Instructors (more on this below)!

Plans are well underway for extending our season, with both a Management and Race Management Committee discussing these over the last few weeks – further updates will be sent soon.

Commodore’s Update

Another week has gone by, with Barton Regatta taking place it was a quiet Saturday afternoon for the Sundown Series. During the second race there was a torrential downpour, which left some very wet sailors with the loss of the wind also. Don’t forget this Saturday 16:00 – 18:00.

Thanks to Bob & Holly for running Paddleboarding on Monday evening - a small group had an enjoyable evening; it will be good to see more return this Monday, it runs from 18:00 – 20:00.

I attended the Race Management Meeting on Wednesday evening.

Don’t forget the White Boat Open this weekend.

Have a great weekend.

Vice-Commodore’s Clew

As I write this piece it is the last day of what meteorologists regard as summer, so we are now going into autumn and it seems no time at all since we were starting the season. They say as you get older time passes more quickly, so it seems.

However, the season is far from over and we have plenty of activities coming up, both on and off the water. I attended a Race Management Meeting this week where we discussed some new events to extend our season, and I also expect to meeting with our Entertainments Committee within the next couple of weeks to finalise plans before putting our next few social event offers out to you.

Maybe we will have an ‘Indian’ summer.

Rear Commodore’s Update

This weekend my family and I attended Barton Regatta and it was well represented by HSC members. The flag was well flown.

Please put the following dates in your diary:

25th October- Halloween festivities for all.

1st December – Christmas Wreath making.

More details to follow, as well as other social events

See you at the weekend.

Galley News

The galley anticipates being busy this weekend as we welcome the White Boat Open event organised by Liz Goodyear, as well as racing on the river this Sunday. Whilst we are continuing to deal with issues taking card payments, if you are able to bring cash when purchasing anything from the galley, that would be gratefully appreciated.

Saturday and Sunday

The galley will be open both Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. We will be making our usual bacon rolls for breakfast on Sunday and bacon baguettes (if I remember to get them out of the oven in time!).

We will also be making a selection of sandwiches and baguettes for people to choose from, from the fridge for lunch rather than order in advance. Toasties will also be available with a variety of fillings. But - remember - if there isn’t anything there you prefer then no worries, if we’ve got it, we’ll make it!

See you Saturday and Sunday!

Training Update – from Andy Barnham

Hi Everybody,

Just a short note to remind you all that Saturday 16th September is our Junior Regatta and we would like as many of the children from the Training Centre as possible to attend. There will be 4 races & then the prizegiving & certificate presentation, all followed by a BBQ for the competitors. Tickets for the BBQ will also be available for everyone else to purchase for £2.50.

Lunch & usual Galley fare will be available throughout the day. Spectators are welcome.

If your child needs to borrow a boat, please can you email me in advance so we can have them on trolleys ready. training.centrehsc@outlook.com

Hope to see you there

I would also like to congratulate our 3 newest Sailing Instructors Hamish, Ella & Alan who, along with myself, passed their Dinghy Instructor course last week with flying colours. After an uncertain start to the week, an unintended swim & a day of exam result stress, we all managed to impress Jeremy our trainer & Ben our moderator on the final day to gain a pass.

Now that Training for this season is over, we’ll start to inspect & pack up the kit over the next month or so, then start planning for next season.

See you on the water.

Andy
