Hi everyone,

Another week has flown by and we are almost into October – but there’s plenty still to look forward to. Last weekend saw a work party, the end of the Sundown Series and a Downriver race to Thurne, with a number of visiting boats. You can read the report here. Today was the start of the Yeoman & Kinsman Broadland National Championships, which continue tomorrow on the Broad, whilst Club racing takes place on the river. As the boats were getting ready to go today, we were also treated to the spectacular sight of 5 wherries sailing past the Club!

Don’t forget to book onto our forthcoming social events – Bookings need to be in for our Oktoberfest by tomorrow – Sunday 01 October (more information in Peter’s report below) and the new Autumn passage race later in October.

Commodore’s Update

Last weekend saw the last of our Sundown Series for the season - keelboats & dinghies took to the water with juniors helping to run the line, after the first race the winds dropped, with races 2 & 3 a challenge and also a test of patience. On race 3 the keel boats were finished after rounding buoy 1, as the wind dropped to zero & they were against the tide, but good fun was had by all.

Sunday I was at Brancaster Staithe SC, where Abbey & Anya were representing  HSC in the ITCA-GBR Topper Traveller. Conditions were tough, with boats breaking or bending masts and broken tillers, with a few death rolls & capsizes thrown into the mix, but they persevered, with Abbey coming 7th & Anya 12th - well done to them both.

If anyone is interested in the ITCA-GBR Topper Travellers or National series events, please talk to Abbey & Anya or myself, it’s a great way to progress your sailing, also to experience sailing on reservoirs, estuaries or the sea.

This weekend Abbey & myself will be at Draycote Water SC, where Abbey will be representing HSC in the ITCA-GBR Topper National Series 1 (NS1); I will be on duty as ITCA-GBR’s CSL (Course Safety Lead) - good luck to Abbey.

Don’t forget to get your entry in for our Autumn Passage Race on Saturday 21st October. If you are not racing please come down & join in. Why not book a roast dinner that will be available following the race? We will also need volunteers for galley & safety boats, so please come forward, you will also get a roast dinner.

A reminder to members that our season continues to mid-November now.

If you are considering selling your boat, contact Jibsheet so it can be advertised to our members who may well be looking for your boat, it also keeps the boats in the Club.

We have now changed our internet provider, my thanks to both Kevin Saunders & Stuart Bailey for all their time sorting this. We hope this will improve the service to the Club & our members.

Don’t forget our up & coming AGM - please attend if you can, as it will include details & voting for the Club to become a CIO (Charitable Incorporated organisation), your vote & attendance is important.

Have a great weekend.

Vice Commodore’s Clew

This weekend we will be into October already and it is looking like a very busy month for Club activities, a last great fling of the normal season before we all go off to buy Christmas cards or something. On the water we have some big events, as no doubt described elsewhere in Jibsheet, and off the water we have Oktoberfest supper and Prizegiving Dinner. Please put your bookings in as soon as possible for these events, either with the online booking forms or directly to me if you find that easier. Also, if you have not yet returned your trophies, please do so this weekend at the Club so we can get everything ready for Prizegiving in good time.

Booking for our Oktoberfest should be by 01 October and for Prizegiving by 14 October. Book for End of Season here and the Prizegiving booking form is here (or use the form attached to the poster).

Rear Commodore’s Update

A massive thank you to everyone who turned up to our work party. We had 33 people altogether, which included some junior members. We are so very grateful to everyone for all their efforts.
