Hi everyone,

We had a great week at Horning Sailing Club, with our racing last weekend, including the races for the Coronation glasses; a fantastic buffet organised by Vikki and her team; and taking part in the Flotilla organised by Julie Thomson. You can read the report here - it was even in the EDP today! We've also had plenty more going on, including a visit from the Royal Yachting Association on Wednesday evening who stopped overnight at the Club whilst sailing the Broads, and the continuation of club training this evening (weren't we lucky to avoid the thunderstorms!)

Next weekend sees two ITCA Topper events taking place at HSC, a training day on Saturday, and a Topper Traveller Sunday - we look forward to welcoming visiting sailors for this. On Sunday, we will also have a Downriver race to Thurne. If you would like to take part, we would be grateful if you could please email racing@horning-sailing.club to indicate your intention.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Commodore’s Update

I hope you all had a great bank holiday weekend celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III, it shows what our Country does so well, & our armed forces were a spectacular site, along with the sound of the military bands.

Sunday at the Club the weather was hot & sunny, but the wind soon dropped off making racing quite a challenge. At lunchtime Vikki & her team did the Club proud with an excellent Coronation buffet also other delights, my thanks to them and also all our volunteers.

After the racing had finished, a flotilla of decorated boats of all types made their way from Black Horse Broad to the other side of the Ferry Inn & back to Black Horse Broad, led by Julie Thomson. Following this we had the prizegiving of our specially made HSC Coronation Glasses. With only one glass per helm, others who came second or lower were able to win a glass, well done to all who took part.

This weekend sees HSC host the ITCA Training on Saturday & Topper Traveller on Sunday, some additional spaces were opened up for the training. You will need to book & pay on the ITCA GBR website. Use the link,  https://www.itca-gbr.co.uk/calendar, any queries please feel free to call me.

Vikki would also like some help in the galley, please contact Vikki with offers of help.

As the 3 Rivers Race gets ever closer, please sign up to shifts in the galley, many hands make light work. We will also have a work party, for which we need several volunteers to get jobs done so we look the best for the event.

Paddleboarding & the Sundown series will start shortly, again to be able to run these events, help will be required. If you’re new to racing come down & enjoy some more relaxed racing.

A big well done to Lily Herring in her Paralympic swimming, again she set another record time.

Have a great weekend.

Vice Commodore’s Clew

I hope you all enjoyed the Coronation weekend and bank holiday. Congratulations to all those who won one of our special Coronation glasses in Sunday’s races, and a very big thank you to all the duty team who made it all go so smoothly. Vikki and the galley team certainly did justice to the Big Lunch, and I thought our participants in the Flotilla sail past were a great advert for the Club. It is not back to normal next weekend and I am sure Will has already spoken of the Topper event over the weekend.

We have some work to do to get the Club ready for the 3 Rivers Race, which is but 3 weeks away this weekend, and we will have some more details of work parties shortly. We usually have a work party the weekend before 3RR so keep that date free if you can.

Further information is available in the White Book.

Three Rivers Race 2023 – volunteers still needed & race video help required

Volunteers are still needed for the Three Rivers Race, and the Committee are looking for new volunteers for our guardship teams (with or without a boat) so if you and/or your family and friends can help, please contact Kevin Saunders (number below) who can talk through the role.  Otherwise, the other roles across the weekend are varied from selling race programmes, car park duties, tidying the island and helping out in the galley for a few hours.  The high-profile tasks are the guard ships and the galley teams, but there is so much more to do across the weekend.  Please call Kevin (07979 906023) to talk about any task and what this entails, hopefully dispelling any thought that a task is difficult for you.

You may also remember that, last year, Keith Palmer made 3RR the Movie 2022 which included clips from the public. This year, he is seeking more footage – see how you can get involved here

Helms & Crew opportunities

Don’t forget that I am co-ordinating helms & crews who wish to get on the water... so, if you are a helm looking for a crew, or a crew looking to get on the water, please contact me (Holly) on holly.hancock@me.com with your requirements and contact details, I will do my best to coordinate these requests. At the moment we have more helms looking for crews, than crews looking for opportunities – so if you are keen to get on the water, it’s a great time to do so!

Easy Fundraising

If you haven’t signed up yet to support the Club through online shopping, you can do so here at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/horningsc/ - a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us in this way!
