Hi everyone,

It might be quieter for us on the water now as our season has finished, but it’s been great to see sailors continuing to sail at SFSC, and taking part in last weekend’s Tri-Icicle race (despite the rain!)

Behind the scenes it’s also been a busy time, with the first meeting of the new Management Committee, and preparations underway for the 2023 season.

Last weekend, Izzy, Andy & Sharon  organised for some of the younger members to do some pumpkin carving (keep a look out in Jibsheet for future winter activities) – and this Saturday morning sees a work party take place at the Club (more information below) – please give a hand if you can.

Don’t forget that it is also our Prizegiving this Saturday evening at the Boathouse, Ormesby. If you have won a trophy but have not booked for the meal, you can still come along to receive it - it’s best to arrive for around 9pm. The full trophy list for the season is also available here.

Please do keep us up-to-date with your activities over the winter – we’d love to hear about them, whether on or off the water!

Commodore’s Update

Our season draws to a close with the Prizegiving & Officers’ Handover at the Boathouse, Ormesby. Even if you are not attending the meal, please come & join us for the Prizegiving following the meal.

We had our AGM on the 7th October at Horning Village Hall.  It would have been good to have more members turn up - it is your chance to put your views forward & discuss ideas / concerns etc, but my door is always open, please feel free to call or talk to me.

Over the weekend of Saturday 8th / Sunday 9th October we ran the End of Season Regatta. We had lovely sunshine and some good wind, with a good turnout to end the season’s racing, with Saturday on the Broad, and Sunday on the river. Vikki & her team did a spectacular roast dinner at lunchtime enjoyed by many, well done to the team.

On Saturday 9th we had our End Of Season Supper held at The Wroxham Hotel. A lovely evening was had by those attending, with the bonus that we were the first to use the hotel’s new dining area. Thanks to Wendy & her staff for the excellent food & service.

Last Sunday I attended the ITCA Topper Traveller Open at WOBYC (Oulton Broad) with my daughter Abbey, where she was representing HSC, she came 4th overall, well done to Abbey.

It would be good to see other juniors attending outside events, come & speak to me if you need any information.

I will be remaining as your Commodore for another year & look forward to next season, although work goes on behind the scenes over the winter months preparing for the new season.

As we keep stressing, we need members to come along and help with tasks to keep our costs down, it’s good fun & children are welcome.

Well, that’s all for now.

Take care & keep safe.

Vice Commodore’s Clew

We are now coming into the time of year when our working parties need to look at the state of the vegetation around our patch. That means cutting and pruning both on the island and across, and possibly up, the river. It means workboats and cutting machines, and in the past this type of activity has proved popular. It takes a sizeable group of volunteers to make significant headway in these tasks, so I am hoping to see many of you at the club this Saturday for our next scheduled working party. The Thursday group do not usually get involved in the more agricultural types of work, so we are reliant on younger and possibly fitter members to get this done. Let us see how much we can achieve this Saturday between 1000 and 1300. Both Will and I will be there to welcome you.

Having worked up an appetite, we have the annual Prizegiving dinner on Saturday evening at the Boathouse in Ormesby. We were there last year and it is a really nice venue, so it should be a good night, especially if you have a prize or trophy to collect.
