The sunshine was a very welcome addition to the second week of Horning Sailing Club’s 2023 season, which otherwise, had exactly the same conditions as the previous week! The North Easterly breeze was fresh and provided for some lively racing, with some stronger gusts causing capsizes amongst the dinghies.

First away were the Yeomans, sailing downwind beyond the Broad entrance, before beating back upwind. For the first race, the positions remained as per the first lap, with the race won by Roger Pettit and Andy Barnham in Anoah, with Paul Clarke and Andy Tabiner second in Two C Sons. The second race was won by Geoff and Michael Stubbs in Tara, with Toby Fields and Daniel Blackwell second in Tanskey. The Rebel and Yare & Bure sailed together, with the remaining fleet, the dinghies, fighting it out in Lasers and Splashes. The first race saw the Splashes of Hamish Harmer and Anya Gittins finish first and second respectively on handicap, with James Street third sailing his Laser. The second race was incredibly close – taking a penalty meant that James’s first position was pushed to third, with Harrison Ryder (Laser) first, and Anya second. The third and fourth race saw another win for James and Anya respectively.

Next weekend (Sunday) sees racing take place on Hoveton Little Broad, which will be open for the Easter weekend, followed by an Open Downriver Race to Thurne on Easter Monday. All are welcome to take part – for more information please contact racing@horning-sailing.club
