Hi everyone,

We hope that you’ve had a good week – we’ve had another busy one at HSC, and with spending 5 days/evenings this week at the Club, it’s felt like a second home! Last Saturday we had Sundown in a gentle breeze, with an even gentler breeze for racing on the River Sunday (read the report here). Monday saw a quiet evening for paddleboarding, and on Wednesday we had a lively taster session with Salhouse Cubs, just about dodging the showers! Thursday saw a damp evening for training and our RYA Inspection, but we are pleased to say that we passed, and the weather brightened up!

Looking ahead to this weekend, there are a few changes for you to be aware of. Firstly, in light of the forecast for very strong winds, the Sundown series tomorrow evening is cancelled. On Sunday, given both the forecast and the weed situation, the OOD has taken the decision to move racing to the river, so Programme A will be followed (more information below). Finally, on Monday evening we will be paddleboarding as usual.

At the time of writing, Regatta Week is a little over 2 weeks away - Saturday 29th July – Friday 4th August. Don’t forget that you can check out our guide to the Regatta, which you can download here. We would also like to encourage you to book onto our social events by 24 Jul – there is more information via the poster below and in the guide above; the posters will also soon be up in the Clubhouse. You can also pre-enter your races here.

Commodore’s Update

Yet another week has flown by, our regatta week is nearly here, don’t forget to pre book your racing. Help will be required throughout the week and volunteers to assist whether the galley / rescue etc would be greatly appreciated.

Monday was another paddleboarding evening, with it being rather windy.  Come down & join in & have some fun, 18:00 to 20:00

Don’t forget Sundown series usually takes place on Saturday 16:00 to 18:00, although this week we will be giving it a break due to the forecast inclement weather - again help is required to run the sailing, in safety or the box -  if you would like to try one of the roles please come along, it’s fun & a relaxed afternoon.

As you may have seen at the weekend, our new work / safety Boat that has been on the island has now been fitted with its engine and is now in the water, it will be painted in due course with additional equipment added, my thanks to all who have been involved so far.

My thanks to all who have helped with the sailing taster sessions held on various Tuesday evenings, hopefully we will see more new members come & join us.

Last Sunday both Abbey & Anya represented HSC in the ITCA Topper Traveller held @ Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club in Lowestoft. It was a trek from Royal Green along the promenade to launch off the beach. The weather was not good, with torrential rain at times, but 3 races were completed out of the 4. After 2 races Abbey was lying overall 1st place but, as the weather deteriorated & the wind dropped, she just missed out, coming overall 2nd,  with Anya 12th -  well done to them both.

Well done also to our young sailors at the awards night on Thursday at Broadland High School.

This week Abbey & myself are getting ready to leave next week for Ireland, where Abbey is representing HSC in the ITCA Topper World Championships in Cork, being hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

Have an enjoyable weekend, the forecast doesn’t look too good.

Vice-Commodore’s Clew

Only just over 2 weeks to go now before the Club Regatta as the prologue to Horning Week. Names are trickling in for the social events that require pre-booking for food, but please make sure you have let me know your choices by the 24 July at the latest to ensure that we have everything ready for you. This is particularly important for the Monday 31 July Pub Games evening with fish and chips, as we will need to get our order sent in good time. See the notices here and in the Clubhouse for all the details.

There is also an option for pre-entry for Horning Week races which you will have seen elsewhere and I add my recommendation that you save yourself some time by using this and, I think, you also get a small discount.

Galley News

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have helped keep the galley going whilst I have had to do ‘Mum’ duties. I just wanted to say a big well done to Poppy, Tallulah and Anya for their awards from Broadland High School. I would also like to mention how lovely it was to see Oliver (Olive) Childerhouse achieve an award too (also lovely to see Ange!), so well done our young sailors old and current for their academic achievements.

As Horning week fast approaches, a rota will be available soon for the galley and any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thursday

As less people are purchasing hot food on a Thursday evening, the galley has decided to provide a simple hot meal for our fabulous volunteers and any sailors who wish to order food. Sorry Jill, no chicken curry for a while! We will have a special dinner at the end of the season, as is now galley tradition.
