Hi everyone,
It’s been another good week at HSC, with last weekend’s Open Dinghy Weekend (you can read the report here) – and this weekend we have several events to look forward to, including Commodore’s Day tomorrow (more information about this in Will’s report below), and our Autumn Regatta on Hoveton Little Broad Sunday (the programme is in the White Book). We also have our AGM coming up at the end of the week (next Friday) – with the End of Season Regatta and Supper next weekend (don’t forget to get your bookings to news@horning-sailing.club) by 5pm Monday 03 October (booking form and menu attached). The season has gone incredibly fast, and it has been great to see so many people enjoying being on the water – whether sailing, paddleboarding, motor boating, swimming(!) – or just being with friends.
Commodore’s Update
Our season is nearly over, it has been good to have as near as normal season this year.
Last Sunday I was away with Abbey who was representing HSC @ the ITCA Topper Traveller held at Hickling Broad Sailing Club, Abbey came 7th with equal points with the 6th place, well done to Abbey, all the sailors had to contend with loads of weed, during the races having to lift rudders & dagger boards which they found quite frustrating.
The End of season supper details for Saturday 08th October 19:00 for 19:30 are attached & booking form, payments please by BACS, please book in advance by 5pm Monday 3rd October as the Restaurant needs time to order our requirements, requests after the date may not be accepted, payment must be made when ordering please.
The Prize Giving & Officer handover will follow at the Boathouse, Ormesby remember to book the date 29th October 2022, again 19:00 for 19:30, more information will follow soon.
Saturday 1st October - it will be Commodores day 11:00 – 16:00. It would be great to see you all, I am keeping fingers crossed that the weather is kind, bring paddle boards & inflatables for a fun day on the water (weather permitting) with potentially some fun races and social get together. BBQ’s will be available for you to use, with some sides provided, tea & coffee. Please bring some cakes to share.
Don’t forget our AGM on Friday 7th October, Horning Village Hall @ 20:00.
Regards
Will – Commodore HSC

Rear Commodore’s 8 Knot
It is a sure sign that the season is rapidly coming to an end when we see the keelboats being lifted out onto their trailers and towed away to spend the winter months hidden away in dark and dusty barns. That is what I have been helping with this week, although it will be another 2 weeks before my own boat sails away to its dusty shed beyond Potter Heigham bridge. We still have no less than 2 regattas to complete before our season ends, and we also still have the delayed Commodore’s Day this Saturday, so there much to keep us sailing and on the water for a while yet.
Maintenance wise, we are changing all the lights in the clubhouse for more efficient LEDs and Terry is hoping to get this finished by the weekend I think. He is certainly working hard on it. In 2 weeks we will have one of our main working parties of the season when we prepare the club for Snowflakes Sailing Club to come in for their winter season. More about that later, but for now have a great weekend with events both Saturday and Sunday.
