Hi everyone,
It’s been another busy week at HSC, with a work party last Saturday followed by the Sundown series Saturday evening and racing on the Broad Sunday (read the full report here: https://horning-sailing.club/news/club-racing-sunday-27th-june-2021/). We went paddleboarding Monday evening, and had Thursday evening training last night. Later this week we have Keelboat Weekend on Saturday and Sunday - 3rd & 4th July (more on this below). Although we will sadly not be holding a social this weekend due to the current environment, we are intending to put on an additional Sundown Series informal race night (approx. 5-7pm) this Saturday (3rd July - tomorrow) – all welcome!
We also have a couple of reminders to members:
· Please note that engines must not be used on Club tenders
· Please adhere to the one-way system in operation in the Clubhouse and for access to the toilet block
Thank you!

Horning Week
We are making plans for Horning Week and, all being well, are planning for sailing activities to go ahead as usual. Socials are a little more tricky but we are endeavouring to do what we can within the guidelines that may be in place at the time – and we will keep you updated. This does mean that we will need volunteers for the Duty Rota during Horning Week for both Rescue and the Galley - and if anyone is willing to help with the Line too, we would be extremely grateful.
We will be putting the Rescue Rota up on the Clubhouse as usual, or you can let us know your preference. Perhaps there might be a group of friends who would be willing to take on the Galley for the week? – You would have freedom to come up with a simple menu/food options – and we would fully support you to put this in place. If you’re interested in helping with this or the Line, please email or speak to Will or myself and we’d be happy to talk further. We really rely on volunteers to make Horning Week work, so please do help if at all possible.
Horning Week Church Service
It has been drawn to our attention that the Horning Reach was incorrect this month in stating that the Club’s Church Service will be on Sunday 18th July. Please note that this will take place during Regatta Week as usual, and as such, will be on Sunday 1st August at 9.30am.
A Note from the Trophy Secretaries
Would those that have a trophy from Horning Town Open Regatta 2019 (Thursday of Horning week) please ensure that the trophies are engraved (2019) and returned ready to be presented to the winners of the Horning Town Regatta 2021. We can be contacted on 01603 721652 or kevinedwards736@btinternet.com
Many Thanks, Edwards Household
Could you be the Club’s next Treasurer?
Unfortunately, Toby Fields has stepped down as Acting Treasurer, and we’d like to thank him very much for stepping in at last minute and helping us out over the past 8 months. This does mean that we are in need of a Treasurer/bookkeeper going forward – so if you can help, or know or someone that can – please do get in touch – commodore@horning-sailing.club or secretary@horning-sailing.club
A Horning Sailing Club Challenge?
Can you help the Club to get to Tokyo prior to Horning Week? As a little bit of fun we would like to see if we can get the Club from Horning to Tokyo (home of the Olympics) – that’s 5,832 miles – over the next month.
How can we do this?
However you want – maybe sailing, paddling, cycling or even walking the dog – and, collectively, let’s try to make this goal! It doesn’t matter if you walk a mile or 20 miles a week – it’s all about the team effort.
How to get involved?
Just log the distances that you are covering – either on an App such as Strava, or just recording it manually – and send weekly to commodore@horning-sailing.club
200 Club
Don’t forget that you can still join the HSC 200 Club (quarterly cash prizes to be won) – for more information contact Joan Butcher, or speak to Will or Holly.
Galley help still needed!
Can you help with keeping stocks topped up for the Galley? A list of what is required would be provided, although all ideas are very welcome. Please email commodore@horning-sailing.club if you can help.
Open Day Postponed
In light of the current government restrictions, the Management Committee has decided to postpone the Club’s Open Day (scheduled for 10th July) until later in the season – with a new date to follow. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Can you upholster our benches?
We are continuing to make improvements to the Clubhouse whilst we plan for the long term future of the Club, and wondered if there is anyone who would be willing to reupholster the long blue bench in the Clubhouse – of course, materials would be provided to do this. Please email vice-commodore@horning-sailing.club if you can help.
National Thank You Day – 4th July
This Sunday, 4th July, is National Thank You Day. In normal times, we would love to hold a BBQ or some event to thank you all in person but, until we can do that, we wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you - Club members and volunteers - for what you do – you truly are amazing.
Keep in touch
Don’t forget to follow Horning Sailing Club on social media for our latest news and updates – we’re on Facebook (page here, group here), Twitter and Instagram.
We look forward to seeing you very soon!
