Hi everyone, and welcome to this fortnight's Jibsheet - as the weather seems to be warming up it's reminding us that our season is creeping ever-nearer. With the season beginning on Sunday 26th March, there's just over a month to go. A reminder that you can find our Sailing Programme for the season here, so please make a note of key dates now! Planning for the season is still well underway, and last week members enjoyed an informative Rules Evening run by Kim West (thanks, Kim!). More events are planned, but we need your support to make them happen - see more in Peter's report.

Commodore's Update

Welcome to Jibsheet, if you are a new member it will keep you updated on what is going on at our club throughout the season. The new season is not far away now & speaking to members, they are preparing their boats as we speak. Also we have our various media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) to keep you up to date on what is happening across the club.

A reminder that next weekend is the RYA Dinghy Show at Farnborough where the launch of the new design Topper is going to be released on Saturday, it will be made of Polyethylene where it has previously been Polypropylene, as said it will remain true to the original design philosophy.

On Thursday, I attended the rules evening at the club which was hosted by Kim West & our thanks to Kim.

On Monday, the Management Committee will meet & all sub committees are working hard to be ready for the new season.

I will be at Royal Harwich Sailing Club this weekend where my daughter, Abbey, is taking part in a Topper Traveller representing HSC, also Anya Gittins is taking part at the event, good luck to them both.

That’s all for now, I hope you have a great weekend.

Keep safe & well

Will – Commodore HSC

Vice Commodore's Clew

The first of our evening winter training events was held at the Club on 09 February and was very well attended. Kim West gave an entertaining presentation on the Racing Rules which generated plenty of discussion and I think it showed there is definitely an appetite for more of this kind of thing in future. We thank Kim for his work putting the presentation together and presenting it with considerable style.

We have the visit to Jeckells in Hoveton coming up next on Thu 23 Feb. This has been kindly offered by Richie Dugdale and we need more names than we have so far to make this visit viable. We have 10 at most so if you have not yet contacted us and would like to come please contact us via secretary@horning-sailing.club as my club email has not been working properly recently.

We are also still taking names (for the numbers) for the visit to Hunter’s Yard in Ludham on Thu 02 Mar. This is an opportunity to see some traditional wooden boat building and maintenance and has been kindly offered by Ezra Bailey.

We are currently making our arrangements for the annual Rigging Out Supper, to be held in Horning Village Hall on 25 Mar. Menu details are under discussion with an outside caterer and will be put out with a booking form soon. We are conscious of the need to keep costs down this year, which is why the Village Hall has been chosen rather than a more expensive hotel location.
